What is Integral Zen?
iEvolve presents, for the first time ever, the possibility of integrating the best of the Zen Buddhist tradition with the insights of modernity and postmodernity. And Integral Practice provides a way for Zen Buddhists to engage in a deeper, more comprehensive practice, exercising body, mind, and spirit in self, culture, and nature.
• Expand your Horizons with the Integral Framework
Integral Zen deploys the Integral Framework, an invaluable aid to helping us understand and categorize our experience. The framework we use is crucial for our growth, since it is both the clearing in which experience arises (the broader the framework, the more fully we can experience then many aspects of life) and the lens through which our experience (even our experience of emptiness!) is interpreted.
• Experience Big Mind
A unique and revolutionary approach for transmitting the authentic teachings that emerged from Buddha's enlightenment experience. By participating in Big Mind, you will gain profound insights in the illuminating experience from which Buddhism and all the world's great religions originate.
• Bring your Shadow into the Light
The religious traditions had no way of knowing about modern psychological notions such as the shadow, aspects of ourselves which we are unable to incorporate in 1st person (“me”) and is thus incorporated in 3rd person (“it”). For example, if we are unable to acknowledge our own hostility, we may project in onto others, seeing them as being hostile to us. Our shadows cause painful symptoms and tend to sabotage spiritual growth, even in the most steadfast of practitioners. Integral Zen introduces practices which help us to identify our shadow and bring it to light, releasing stores of energy we never knew we had!
• Experience Healthy Development through States and Stages
Another crucial insight of Integral Theory is that all people experience states (such as the great natural states of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep) and all people navigate through stages of development. Confusion between these conceptions can be perilous, and an understanding of them can help us to walk our spiritual path in a conscious fashion, and enter more deeply into relationship with emptiness and form.
